Pre-School

A headstart in life

Lighthouse Preschool was established as a separate division of the Lighthouse Academy for young learners to provide a balanced education system to children of all levels and is managed on a non profit-basis. This means that all income received by the preschool goes back into developing and furthering its facilities and programs.

The school is run as parent co-operatives. We thrive on real input from parents, ranging from shopping and organising social events to gardening and cooking. It is a community of parents, teachers and children which fosters individual development within a context of co-operation, mutual responsibility and respect.

Our Philosophy

At Lighthouse pre-school, we aim to:

  • provide a warm, secure and stimulating environment where  children can develop at their own pace

  • enhance children’s confidence and self-estem

  • encourage children to socialise both with adults and with their peers

    •    provide a range of constructive, creative and imaginative activities to develop children’s intellectual capacities
    •    provide opportunities for children to improve their physical skills.

Our aim is to provide a setting where children will flourish through play and academic learning. Every child is nominated a key person from among the staff who has special responsibility for their progress and welfare. Regular meetings are held throughout the year to share information on the children’s development.

Learning

The curriculum aims to facilitate the physical, emotional, social, creative, cognitive and spiritual development of each child at his own pace. It syllabus uses a blend of international and local syllabus to localise its academic learning while maintaining its international curriculum. We are aware there will be children who will be entering international school and local primary school hence the system has been designed for a wholesome academic education need. The curriculum covers a broad area with emphasis on languages such as English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin and Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and Word Building.

Play is one of the main ways in which children learn. It helps to build self worth by giving a child a sense of his or her own abilities and to feel good about themselves. Because it’s fun, children often become very absorbed in what they are doing. In turn, this helps them develop the ability to concentrate. Providing children with a range of playthings will help them learn in a number of ways. Lighthouse Pre-School's recognises that academic learning needs to be topped with free play facilitates for effective early childhood learning. Arts and Craft, Garden and Beach Exploration, Music and Movement, Cooking are some of the activities to develop children's imagination which is closely linked to their intellectual development.

We capitalise on the natural environment that we have right at our backyard to develop the child to its fullest potential both academically and also extracurricularly. Lighthouse Pre-School's very own beach and garden enable just that. Daily creative play indoor and outdoor is an essential part of healthy growth and learning. Our environment is supportive of our philosophy of academic learning and learning through play. Therefore it is helpful that a child is in an environment as natural and as supporting as possible.

The academic and play emphasis encourage an all round development of a child's personality.
